Biking & Paved Trails

MetroParks is working to connect communities through the largest paved-trail network in Butler County! From the Great Miami River Trail to the Miami 2 Miami and more, people have the opportunity to bike, walk and move through Butler County and beyond. Jump on the Great Miami River Trail in Middletown and bike your way to Piqua, or take the newest leg of the Miami 2 Miami Trail and explore Gilmore MetroPark. Whether you're looking to exercise locally or take a day-trip north, MetroParks is your local connection to your next trail adventure! 

Great Miami River Trail

  • MetroParks manages around twelve miles of the Great Miami River Trail, which is planned to run approximately 86 miles from the City of Piqua to the City of Fairfield. 
  • Trail users can access the South section of the trail at the Timberhill Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark and ride from Rentschler Forest to the City of Hamilton.
  • Riders can also access miles of contiguous trail in the North section beginning at the Trenton Trailhead. Trail users can currently travel from the Trenton Trailhead to Piqua without detouring around trail gaps!

Miami 2 Miami Trail

  • In May 2023, MetroParks and our partners at the City of Hamilton and the Butler County Engineers Office held a grand opening celebration for the Miami 2 Miami Trail at Gilmore MetroPark.
  • The 1.5 mile trail extension at Gilmore not only provides convenient public access to the park's natural areas, but is also one of the first steps in connecting two of the region's longest paved trail networks. 
  • The Miami 2 Miami Trail is part of the Miami 2 Miami Connection which aims to link the Great Miami River Trail with the Little Miami Scenic Trail in Warren County. For more information about the Miami 2 Miami plan, click here. 

What's Coming Next

  • In late 2022, MetroParks was awarded $3.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding and a $200,000 state capital grant to facilitate further construction of the Great Miami River Trail. Funding will help MetroParks complete the 1.6-mile Middletown-Monroe Gap and complete a portion of the 3.1-mile Lemon-Liberty-Fairfield Township gap.

  • Thanks to a $441,639 Clean Ohio Trails Grant, MetroParks and West Chester Township will begin construction on a 0.79-mile paved trail segment in 2024 which will eventually link the VOA Shopping Center to Deerfield Township's trail system. For more information about this project, click here.
